Asymptotic expansions of test statistics for dimensionality and additional information in canonical correlation analysis when the dimension is large

چکیده
This paper examines asymptotic expansions of test statistics for dimensionality and additional information in canonical correlation analysis based on a sample of size N = n+1 on two sets of variables, i.e., xu; p1×1 and xv; p2×1. These problems are related to dimension reduction. The asymptotic approximations of the statistics have been studied extensively when dimensions p1 and p2 are fixed and the sample size N tends to infinity. However, the approximations worsen as p1 and p2 increase. This paper derives asymptotic expansions of the test statistics when both the sample size and dimension are large, assuming that xu and xv have a joint (p1 + p2)-variate normal distribution. Numerical simulations revealed that this approximation is more accurate than the classical approximation as the dimension increases.

Asymptotic Distributions of Estimators of Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions in Functional Data
Functional data analysis is a relatively new and rapidly growing area of statistics. This is partly due to technological advancements which have made it possible to generate new types of data that are in the form of curves. Because the data are functions, they lie in function spaces, which are of infinite dimension. To analyse functional data, one way, which is widely used, is to employ princip...
متن کاملAsymptotic non-null distributions of test statistics for redundancy in high-dimensional canonical correlation analysis
In this paper, we derive asymptotic non-null distributions of three test statistics, i.e., the likelihood ratio criterion, the Lawley-Hotelling criterion and the Bartlett-Nanda-Pillai criterion, for redundancy in high-dimensional canonical correlation analysis. Since our setting is that the dimension of one of two observation vectors may be large but does not exceed the sample size, we use the ...
متن کاملGeneralization of Canonical Correlation Analysis from Multivariate to Functional Cases and its related problems
In multivariate cases, the aim of canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for two sets of variables x and y is to obtain linear combinations of them so that they have the largest possible correlation. However, when x and y are continouse functions of another variable (generally time) in nature, these two functions belong to function spaces which are of infinite dimension, and CCA for them should b...
متن کاملAsymptotic expansions of the distributions of estimators in canonical correlation analysis under nonnormality
Asymptotic expansions of the distributions of typical estimators in canonical correlation analysis under nonnormality are obtained. The expansions include the Edgeworth expansions up to order O(1/n) for the parameter estimators standardized by the population standard errors, and the corresponding expansion by Hall’s method with variable transformation. The expansions for the Studentized estimat...
متن کاملAsymptotics for Tests on Mean Profiles, Additional Information and Dimensionality under Non-normality
We consider the comparison of mean vectors for k groups when k is large and sample size per group is fixed. The asymptotic null and non-null distributions of the normal theory Likelihood Ratio, Lawley-Hotelling and Bartlett-Nanda-Pillai statistics are derived under general conditions. We extend the results to tests on the profiles of the mean vectors, tests for additional information (provided ...
